Ingredients

2 large Granny Smith apples (or your favorite apple variety)

2 tablespoons coconut sugar (or brown sugar)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

A pinch of salt

Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for added flavor

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Core the apples and slice them thinly using a mandoline or a very sharp knife (around 1/8 inch thick). The thinner the slices, the crispier the chips will be.

Toss with Lemon Juice: In a large mixing bowl, combine the apple slices with lemon juice. This not only adds flavor but also helps to prevent browning.

Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a separate small bowl, mix the coconut sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Coat the Apple Slices: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apple slices. Toss gently to ensure each slice is evenly coated. If you’re using vanilla extract, drizzle it in now and toss again for extra flavor.

Arrange on Baking Sheets: Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Make sure they are not overlapping so they can bake evenly.

Bake: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven. Bake for 1 to 1.5 hours, flipping the apple slices halfway through the baking time. Bake until they are golden and crisp, keeping an eye on them towards the end to prevent burning.

Cool and Crisp: Once baked, remove the chips from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheets. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.

Store: Once cooled, store the apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week (if they last that long!).
