Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon cinnamon

½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)

1 tablespoon cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Continue cooking while stirring frequently until the butter turns a deep golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Prepare the Sugar Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Pour in the browned butter and mix until well combined. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Once the butter mixture has cooled, whisk in the eggs one at a time until fully integrated. Then, add the vanilla extract and mix until smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Prep the Baking Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

Spread in the Pan: Pour the cookie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Prepare the Coating: In a small bowl, mix the ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.

Coat the Batter: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the pan.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Cut: Remove the bars from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, cut into squares and enjoy!
