Ingredients

1 large baguette or loaf of rustic bread

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 head of garlic

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for an extra cheesy version)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the garlic: Cut the top off the head of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle with a little olive oil and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. Roast in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, until the cloves are soft and caramelized.

Make the herb butter: While the garlic is roasting, in a medium bowl, mix the softened butter, chopped parsley, basil, oregano, sea salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) until well combined.

Squeeze the garlic: Once the garlic is cool enough to handle, squeeze the roasted cloves out of their skins into the herb butter mixture. Blend until smooth and well incorporated.

Slice the bread: Cut the baguette or rustic loaf in half lengthwise. If desired, you can make additional diagonal cuts to create smaller pieces.

Spread the butter: Generously spread the herb garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread, making sure to cover them well.

Optional cheese topping: If you're adding Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it evenly over the buttered side of the bread.

Wrap and bake: Wrap the buttered bread halves in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.

Crispy finish: After 15 minutes, unwrap the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes to allow the bread to get crispy and golden.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for the best experience!
