Ingredients

For the Burgers:

1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend)

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

4 slices of Swiss cheese (or more for an extra cheesy version)

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

For the Caramelized Onions:

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp sugar (optional, to enhance caramelization)

Salt to taste

For Assembly:

4 burger buns

Lettuce leaves

Sliced tomatoes

Your choice of condiments (mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, etc.)

Instructions

Caramelize the Onions:

    - In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.

      - Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally until the onions soften (about 5 minutes).

        - Reduce the heat to low, add the sugar (if using), and continue to cook for another 25-30 minutes, stirring regularly, until the onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.

          Prepare the Burger Patties:

            - In a bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined (avoid overmixing).

              - Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a patty.

                Stuff the Burgers:

                  - On 4 of the patties, place a slice of Swiss cheese (or two for extra melty goodness).

                    - Top the cheese with a generous spoonful of caramelized onions.

                      - Take the remaining 4 patties and place them on top of the stuffed patties. Pinch the edges together securely to seal the cheese and onions inside.

                        Cook the Burgers:

                          - Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly grease the cooking surface if needed.

                            - Cook the stuffed burgers for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium, or until they reach your desired doneness. If you prefer your burgers more cooked, add a couple of extra minutes to each side.

                              Assemble the Burgers:

                                - While the burgers are cooking, you can toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a separate skillet if you like.

                                  - Once cooked, place the stuffed burgers on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and your favorite condiments. Place the top half of the bun on each burger.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Enjoy your heavenly caramelized onion and Swiss stuffed burgers hot with a side of fries or a fresh salad!
