Ingredients

For the filling:

6 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (or cornstarch for a gluten-free option)

For the topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are well-coated in the mixture. Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Make the Topping: In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, ground cinnamon, and salt until crumbly. If you’re using nuts, fold them into the topping mixture.

Assemble: Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

Cool & Serve: Let the apple crisp cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat!
