For the Pasta:

12 oz (340g) pasta (fettuccine or penne)

1 tablespoon olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus more for garnish)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)

For the Garlic Bread:

1 loaf of French bread

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Salt to taste

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta:

    - In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and reserve about ½ cup of pasta water.

      Sauté Garlic:

        - In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant (but not browned).

          Make the Tomato Sauce:

            - Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Add the heavy cream, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

              Combine Pasta and Sauce:

                - Add the drained pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat in the creamy tomato sauce. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.

                  Add Basil and Cheese:
