Ingredients

2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Optional: a drizzle of olive oil for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Chickpeas: In a medium-sized saucepan, add the drained and rinsed chickpeas. Cover them with water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes until slightly softened. Drain and set aside.

Sauté the Garlic: In the same saucepan, melt the butter over low-medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until it becomes fragrant but not browned.

Mash the Chickpeas: Add the drained chickpeas back into the saucepan with the garlic butter. Using a potato masher or fork, mash the chickpeas to your desired consistency—smooth or chunky, based on your preference.

Season the Mash: Stir in the lemon juice, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Serve: Transfer the mash to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, if desired, and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve warm with pita, bread, or as a side dish.
