Ingredients

4 cups of pear juice (freshly pressed if possible)

2 cups of apple cider

3 ripe pears, halved and cored

1 orange, zested and juiced

3 cinnamon sticks

5 whole cloves

4 star anise pods

1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger)

2 tablespoons of maple syrup (adjust to taste)

A sprinkle of ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Optional: Caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

Combine Juices: In a large saucepan, combine the pear juice and apple cider. Stir well to mix.

Prepare the Pears: Add the halved pears into the pot, cut side down. They will infuse their flavor into the cider as it heats.

Add Aromatics: Add the orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and grated ginger to the pan. Stir to incorporate all the ingredients.

Heat the Cider: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Do not let it boil; you want it to infuse the flavors without losing the precious juices' essence.

Sweeten if Needed: After about 10-15 minutes of simmering, taste the cider. If you prefer it sweeter, add maple syrup to taste, and stir until combined.

Simmer Further: Let the cider simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes to deepen the flavor. The pears will soften and release their juices into the cider.

Strain and Serve: Once done, strain the cider into mugs or heatproof glasses to remove the spices and pear halves. You can leave a few pieces of pear in the cider for a rustic touch.

Garnish: Sprinkle with a little ground nutmeg on top and drizzle with caramel sauce if you like a sweet twist.

Enjoy Warm: Serve immediately, and enjoy the comforting warmth of spiced pear cider on a chilly day.
